DiY-Postbacc is partnering with Edmonds College

DIY is partnering with Edmonds College! A Postbacc program for future healthcare providers created by people who work, live and breathe healthcare. Our program is composed of people who worked in healthcare, were on Admissions Committees and are passionate about flipping the typical Postbacc program model on its head.
Most Postbacc programs are created by faculty/staff who work in Higher Ed with the student as the end user and a goal of increasing the number of students on their campus. Great goal! But our goal is bigger. We want to improve healthcare outcomes. When I approached Edmonds College about partnering with us, the response was simply “how can we help”. What an amazing response.
With the help of our really smart friends and allies we have a curriculum that will teach the exact soft skills graduate schools are looking for. This will be done by lecture, reflection, and hands on activities. (Professionalism, time management, accountability etc).
Students will then be connected to clinical experiences, mentors, and a network of people who want to help them succeed. Guest speakers consist of patients, providers, current graduate students and social service agencies about social determinants of health. And ex admission committee members will help with applications and essay writing. All of this will create a strong online and in person Postbacc community with a mission of improving healthcare for all.
And when students are done, they will get a certificate of completion that will show they were part of something bigger than themselves.
